Traffic stop video shows Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger insisting he’s ‘honest’

Newly released video from an August 2022 traffic stop shows Bryan Kohberger telling police he’s “ obviously an honest person ” three months before he brutally murdered four University of Idaho students for reasons that remain unknown. A Latah County sheriff’s deputy’s body camera captured the mass murderer stating his case after being pulled over while driving 43 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the officer notices Kohberger isn’t wearing a seat belt, the busted motorist admits to not having worn one while driving. “I mean, I’m obviously an honest person, right?” Kohberger says in the footage released Monday. “I told you I wasn’t wearing my seat belt.” The officer tells Kohberger it’s his job to enforce seat belt mandates and the two wish each other a good night after he writes Kohberger a $10 citation. According to prosecutors, the traffic stop was made on a night when Kohberger’s cellphone pinged off a tower near the Moscow home where he later fatally stabbed Kaylee Goncalves, X...

Training Camp Observations: Justin Fields, Jets’ offense struggles on Day 6

If Tuesday was any indication, the Jets ‘ offense has a long way to go one week into training camp. On a hot, humid, and sticky day in Florham Park, Gang Green’s defense controlled the offense in just about every aspect. “You have to look at this thing from a wide lens for the most part,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said. “And make sure you correct the things that need to be corrected when you don’t do things the right way, and celebrate the things that need to be celebrated when they are done the right way. The thing that I like more than anything, like I said before, is, man, this is a jockeying for position on who’s going to come out on top every day, and I like that about our players. “They want to win every rep, but you know what, that’s just not realistic. So, as a head coach, I just make sure that when I talk to the staffs, I mean this is what we got to do better when we do lose, and when we win, man, let’s continue to do these things and let’s improve on doing these things.” Bef...

Jon Runyan Jr., Giants O-Line assertive in impressive first padded practice

Starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr. believes the Giants have “one of the best defensive lines in the league.” So Runyan and the Giants’ offensive line didn’t have to look far for motivation this training camp. “I think we kind of made it a point this year,” Runyan Jr. told the Daily News Monday. “Everybody talks about how good this D-Line’s gonna be. I mean yeah, that’s good for the team. But we’re also gonna be a good O-Line this year. “So we’re just going out there to prove to ourselves and everybody else that we can be the best we want to be,” he said. “This offensive and defensive line unit is gonna take the team as far as it goes. So on both sides of the ball, we take pride in that.” Maybe it was that rallying cry. Maybe it was the players getting tired of practicing without pads. Whatever the offensive line used as fuel on Monday, it worked. In the Giants’ first padded practice of 2025, Brian Daboll ‘s offensive line turned in one of the more impressive practices a front fiv...

Mom of Bronx torture victim laments loss of adored daughter, ‘last Mother’s Day together’

The mom of a Bronx woman who police say was tortured and murdered by her brutal ex never thought the time they spent together in May would be their last Mother’s Day. Princesa Encarnacion-Soto’s mother said the doomed 24-year-old was living with her in Rhode Island, where she grew up after moving from Puerto Rico 15 years ago, but ended up back in the Bronx less than two weeks before her death. “I never think this is the last time I see my daughter,” said Jecebelle Soto, 39. “I never think it’s the last birthday together and the last Mother’s Day together.” Soto’s birthday is also in May. LinkedIn Princesa Incarnacion-Soto, 21. (LinkedIn) Police are still looking for the accused killer, Robert Strother, 26. Investigators believe he tortured Encarnacion-Soto for more than a week before she died inside the Grand Concourse apartment in Fordham. Cops believe Strother tied her down to the bed — based on the bloody clothes, sheets and bungee cords discovered at the scene — and bea...

Yankees avoid sweep as Ryan McMahon shines in win over Phillies

The Yankees salvaged a series and avoided a sweep on Sunday, as they defeated the Phillies, 4-3, in the Bronx. Such a result seemed unlikely for the embattled Bombers in the second inning, as Philadelphia took an early lead after Nick Castellanos and Otto Kemp hit solo home runs off Carlos Rodón . However, Zack Wheeler, who only needed five pitches to get through the first, had his own rough second frame, allowing a single to Giancarlo Stanton before hitting Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jasson Domínguez. Ryan McMahon, playing in just his second game with the Yankees after being acquired from the Rockies on Friday , followed with a game-tying, two-run double for his first ribbies in pinstripes. Austin Wells then gave the Yankees the lead with a sac fly before Trent Grisham added an RBI single. Kemp hit another solo shot off Rodón in the fifth to make it a one-run game, but things could have gone much worse for the southpaw after he permitted an Edmundo Sosa single and walked Weston Wilson...

Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton embracing potential OF return with Aaron Judge injured

With Aaron Judge only expected to DH when he first returns from a right flexor strain, Giancarlo Stanton will dust off his glove. Stanton has not played defense since 2023, but he will get some work in the outfield with Judge hitting the IL on Sunday. The Yankees’ hope is that Judge will only be gone for 10 days before they can reinsert his bat into the lineup, but he will be shut down from throwing for 10-14 days, as flexor strains can be a precursor to ulnar collateral ligament injuries if not treated properly. From there Judge will ramp up his throwing program before returning to the outfield. In the meantime, Stanton’s job is to knock off any defensive rust he has so that he can make himself a viable outfield option once Judge comes off the IL. After talking to Aaron Boone, Stanton said he’s ready for whatever helps the Yankees win. “I believe that’s going to be for me to be in the outfield,” the slugger continued Saturday. “I’ll be working out there this coming week and be re...

The victim was treated for stab wounds to her upper body and is said to be in stable condition. The male suspect fled the scene and jumped into the water. He was later “retrieved unresponsive and pronounced dead by onboard medical staff,” according to the RBPF. Footage obtained by CBS News Miami appears to show crew members scrambling in a frantic attempt to save a colleague immediately after the incident. A Royal Car...

Mangione died from natural causes on Tuesday at his home in Rochester, his family told the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Chuck Mangione is pictured in New York on Feb. 1, 1972. When “Feels So Good” was released in 1978, it reached No. 2 on the charts , behind only one of the best-selling albums of all time, the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack. Flugelhorn player Chuck Mangione rehearses the national anthem before Game 6 of the American League Championship baseball series between the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yanke...

Patient dies from brain-eating amoeba in S.C. children’s hospital

A patient has died after being exposed to a brain-eating amoeba in South Carolina, doctors at a children’s hospital in Columbia said Tuesday. The patient, who has not been identified, was likely exposed to Naegleria fowleri at Lake Murray, just outside Columbia, in early July, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Health. N. fowleri, a one-celled organism that thrives in warm freshwater lakes, rivers and hot springs, is often called the “brain-eating ameba” because it can infect the brain and destroy brain tissue , according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) — a brain infection that occurs when water containing the amoeba goes up the nose into the brain — is very rare but often fatal. On Tuesday, officials with the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands confirmed the patient died from the infection, which Dr. Anna-Kathryn Burch, a pediatric infectious disease physician at the hospital, called “devasta...

Queens man arrested for murder 10 months after wife dies from blow to head

The husband of a Queens real estate agent who died from a severe blow to the head 10 months ago was arrested for her murder Tuesday, police said. Jose Lequerica, 50, was arraigned Tuesday in Queens Criminal Court on charges of murder and depraved indifference and ordered held without bail. He is accused of killing his wife Asli Ak, 48, who died Nov. 20, three days after cops responding to a 911 call found her unconscious in the couple’s Jackson Heights home. Ak’s heartbroken family are still reeling from her death. “We lost her too soon,” her brother, Osman Ak, said in a GoFundMe post in December that raised over $6,000 for her funeral services . “This has come as a shock to all who knew her. We would like to see the ongoing police investigation through and justice served.” The brother described the victim as a successful real estate agent who had dreams of opening her own agency. Ak had made the transition to real estate after more than 20 years as a child care provider, helpi...

Though he compiled a long and varied acting resume, Warner remained best-known for his first big role, as the only son of Bill Cosby’s character Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show.” Warner was only a teenager when he was first cast in the show, and Cosby picked him personally. Needy Yankees get Marcus Stroman’s best and longest start of 2025 in win over Braves

ATLANTA – With their bullpen already taxed just two games into the second half, the Yankees desperately needed Marcus Stroman to provide some length on Sunday. The right-hander — not exactly an ideal choice for the task — delivered, spinning his best and longest start of the season in the Bombers’ 4-2 win over the Braves. The victory secured a series win after the Yanks dropped Friday’s second-half opener at Truist Park and completed a chaotic comeback on Saturday . Stroman demonstrated strong command throughout the afternoon, refusing to issue a free pass while completing six innings of work. Both were season-firsts for the veteran, who also struck out four while allowing one hit and one earned run. Stroman’s 95 pitches were a season-high. The Braves were scoreless against Stroman until the sixth, as Matt Olson obliterated a solo home run that landed on the roof of Truist Park’s Chop House in right field. Still, Stroman finished the inning and spared the Yankees’ pen from havin...

Number of people missing from Texas floods drops to three from high of 160

The number of people missing since the July 4 floods in Texas dropped to three this weekend as authorities recovered victims, located those who turned out to be safe, and unmasked a few unsubstantiated or falsified reports, officials said. Initially at least 160 people had been unaccounted for after the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes during torrential rains in the pre-dawn hours . The rushing waters claimed riverside homes, vehicles, vacation cabins and youth summer campgrounds full of children and counselors. At least 135 people were killed, most of them in Kerr County, including 27 campers and counselors from the private, century-old Camp Mystic. “We are profoundly grateful to the more than 1,000 local, state, and federal authorities who have worked tirelessly in the wake of the devastating flood that struck our community,” Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice said in a statement from the city and Kerr County. “Thanks to their extraordinary efforts, the number of ind...

Mets Notebook: Pete Alonso out of lineup vs. Reds with hand contusion

Pete Alonso hasn’t missed a game in more than two years, but he’s in danger of snapping that streak Sunday. The Mets ‘ first baseman was out of the lineup for the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds with a right hand contusion. X-rays were negative and the slugger was receiving treatment Sunday morning with the hope of coming off the bench. Mark Vientos got the start at first base and hit fourth in the lineup behind Juan Soto. Alonso felt pain at the base of his thumb in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the Reds , but the Mets aren’t entirely sure how and when the injury first occurred, though it was likely swinging a bat. “Impact, I guess,” manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday morning at Citi Field. “Guess he got jammed a couple times and it just got worse.” Alonso alerted the training staff after his second at-bat Saturday. The Mets are hoping that it’s only a minor issue, but they wanted to be cautious with their All-Star first-baseman. The last time Alonso was out of the starting li...

NJ doctor charged with writing thousands of opioid prescriptions in exchange for sex

A New Jersey doctor has been charged with writing tens of thousands of opioid prescriptions in exchange for sexual favors , as well as defrauding Medicaid by billing for visits that never actually took place, according to federal prosecutors. Ritesh Kalra, 51, of Secaucus, is accused of operating a pill mill out of his medical office in Fair Lawn, where he allegedly prescribed high-dose opioids to patients struggling with addiction but without a legitimate medical purpose. The prescriptions included promethazine with codeine and oxycodone, a powerful opioid painkiller with a high risk of addiction and abuse , court documents show. According to investigators, the internist wrote more than 31,000 oxycodone prescriptions between January 2019 and February 2025 — including days when he wrote more than 50 of them. Some female patients told several of Kalra’s former employees that they were touched inappropriately and coerced into sexual acts to obtain their prescriptions , according to t...

Britain is lowering the voting age to 16. It’s getting a mixed reaction

By JILL LAWLESS LONDON (AP) — There has been a mixed reaction in Britain to the government’s announcement that it will lower the voting age from 18 to 16 before the next national election . The Labour Party administration says it’s part of a package of changes to strengthen British democracy and help restore trust in politics. The opposition says it’s a power-grab by the left. Experts say it’s complicated, with mixed evidence about how lowering the voting age affects democracy and election outcomes. The biggest change since the 1960s Britain’s voting age last fell in 1969, when the U.K. became one of the first major democracies to lower it from 21 to 18. Many other countries, including the United States, followed suit within a few years. Now the government says it will lower the threshold to 16 by the time the next general election is held, likely in 2029. That will bring the whole country into line with Scotland and Wales, which have semiautonomous governments and already let 1...
