Traffic stop video shows Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger insisting he’s ‘honest’

Newly released video from an August 2022 traffic stop shows Bryan Kohberger telling police he’s “obviously an honest person” three months before he brutally murdered four University of Idaho students for reasons that remain unknown.

A Latah County sheriff’s deputy’s body camera captured the mass murderer stating his case after being pulled over while driving 43 mph in a 35 mph zone.

When the officer notices Kohberger isn’t wearing a seat belt, the busted motorist admits to not having worn one while driving.

“I mean, I’m obviously an honest person, right?” Kohberger says in the footage released Monday. “I told you I wasn’t wearing my seat belt.”

The officer tells Kohberger it’s his job to enforce seat belt mandates and the two wish each other a good night after he writes Kohberger a $10 citation.

According to prosecutors, the traffic stop was made on a night when Kohberger’s cellphone pinged off a tower near the Moscow home where he later fatally stabbed Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin and Madison Mogen. He’s believed to have scouted area while attending nearby Washington State University.

Prior to pleading guilty to the murders on July 2, prosecutors had planned to use the video at Kohberger’s murder trial to establish that he was driving a white Hyundai Elantra like the one spotted near the murder scene several months later.

Kohberger was ordered last week to to serve four consecutive life sentences in prison after agreeing to a plea deal that saved him from the death penalty.
