Panhandler killed in Brooklyn hit-and-run was struck by two SUV drivers: NYPD

A homeless panhandler killed on a Brooklyn street was struck by two different SUV drivers who both left the scene, police said Sunday.

The unidentified victim, believed to be in his 30s, was standing in the westbound lanes of Linden Blvd. at Rockaway Ave. in Brownsville when the driver of a light-colored SUV going west hit him at 4:05 a.m. Saturday, cops said. That driver had a green light, cops said.

A second light-colored SUV, also going west on Linden, then struck the victim as he lay in the roadway, cops said. Neither driver remained at the scene.

Medics took the victim to Brookdale University Hospital, but he could not be saved. The victim had no ID on him, and police are still working to determine his identity.

No arrests have been made.

The victim panhandled around the area, a friend told the Daily News Saturday night, asking to remain anonymous.

The friend described him as “a people’s person” and “down to earth.”

She called the area where he was struck dangerous. “I almost got hit a couple of times,” she said. “You got to be careful when you cross the street.”

The fatal crash happened just two days after a hit-and-run Ford SUV driver fatally struck 4-year-old Zachariah Padilla on Rockaway Parkway and Linden Blvd., just five blocks away.

The little boy was killed after breaking away from his mother, Harmonie Wright, and dashing into the street shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday, cops said. The driver has not been caught.

Long Island man stabbed roommate to death in fight: cops

A young Long Island man has been arrested and accused of stabbing his roommate to death Sunday following a dispute at their home in Nassau County, police said. Desean Hamilton , a 23-year-old Elmont resident, was charged with second-degree murder in the case, Nassau County police said Monday in an alert. The victim was publicly identified only as a 33-year-old man. Investigators believe Hamilton and the victim had an argument over living conditions at their shared home , about 5 miles northeast of JFK Airport, News 12 Long Island reported.
