Long Island teen kills ex-girlfriend, then shoots himself in the face: police

A Long Island teenager fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, then shot himself in the face on Wednesday but survived, police said.

The 17-year-old suspect, who lived with his parents in Nesconset, was not publicly identified due to his age, Suffolk County police said in an alert.

Emily Finn, an 18-year-old West Sayville resident, was killed in the shooting at the suspect’s home on Shenandoah Blvd. She’d come home from college and was dropping off some of the ex-boyfriend’s things.

“She wanted to speak to him face to face,” Suffolk County Police Detective Kevin Beyrer said at a press conference outside the home. “They had broken up a couple weeks ago. From what we’re hearing, he took the breakup very hard.”

The 17-year-old killed Finn with a shotgun blast, then turned the gun on himself. The boy’s parents were home at the time, but working in the backyard, Beyrer said. His father called 911 to report the shooting.

The boy was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, according to authorities.

Cops did not say who owned the gun the suspect used, but said it was legally owned. Investigators said there was no “domestic history” between the teenage couple.

The suspect turns 18 in the coming days, Newsday reported. He’ll be charged as an adult with second-degree murder and arraigned when practical, officials said.

The hearings included 17 witnesses and centered on evidence recovered and statements Mangione made to Pennsylvania law enforcement surrounding his arrest five days after Thompson’s killing. Freezing rain, ice threaten North Jersey and Hudson Valley, NYC to get mostly rain

Freezing rain and small accumulations of ice could hit northern parts of New Jersey and the southern Hudson Valley on Sunday night, meteorologists said. The new winter weather threat followed several inches of snow that fell from Friday night into Saturday morning. Though the snowstorm blanketed the five boroughs , temperatures in New York City are expected to remain high enough Sunday to avoid wintery conditions. “Temperatures along the immediate coast, including the NYC metro, are expected to inch just above freezing,” National Weather Service forecasters wrote Sunday. “When rain develops just after dark, [precipitation] here is expected to be mainly rain at onset.” But north and northwest of the city, temperatures will be cold enough to create freezing rain and small amounts of ice, according to the National Weather Service. The highest chance of ice was in Orange and Putnam counties in New York, Warren and Morris counties in New Jersey and Fairfield and New Haven counties in ...
