Trump threatens to expand military crackdown to Chicago

President Trump Monday threatened to order National Guard troops to Chicago in a widening crackdown on big cities that started with Washington, D.C. — and Democratic leaders pushed back. Trump sang the praises of surging military troops into the streets of the nation’s capital and threatened to expand the operation to Chicago and beyond during a White House ceremony where he signed several executive orders aimed at battling crime. “We can go anywhere on 24 hours notice,” Trump said. “We want to go on to other places,” Trump added. “Chicago, Illinois, is a disaster….Chicago is a killing field.” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker countered that there is no pressing need for troops or other federal law enforcement, especially with crime down sharply in Chicago and other cities nationwide. Pritzker was expected to hold a press conference along with the state’s attorney general to push back against Trump’s possible plan to declare some sort of emergency and send troops into the streets of t...

Teen girl visiting old Bronx neighborhood struck in head with stray bullet in mass shooting

A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life with a stray bullet lodged in her head after being caught up in a mass shooting visiting her old Bronx neighborhood on the day her mother graduated with a PhD. Anthonaya Cambell was watching a basketball tournament at Haffen Park across the street from her family’s old apartment in Baychester when the shooting broke out, leaving one man dead, three adults wounded and her clinging to life. Police confirmed Anthonaya was an innocent bystander. Hours before Anthonaya was shot in the back of the head, her mother Jennifer Talbot was awarded her PhD in psychology at her graduation ceremony from Heart Bible International University in Connecticut, where mother and daughter moved five years ago. “My day of celebration became my day of my worst nightmare really quickly,” Talbot said. Earlier in the day Anthonaya had called her mom several times to ask how her big day was going. “She felt bad because she didn’t get to come [to graduation]” Talbo...

Jets trade DT Derrick Nnadi to Chiefs

After failing to make an impact with the Jets, Derrick Nnadi is returning to a familiar place. The Jets have traded Nnadi to the Chiefs, sources confirmed Daily News. The two teams will also trade conditional sixth and seventh-round 2027 draft picks. ESPN first reported the trade. Nnadi, 29, spent his first seven seasons with the Chiefs after they selected him in the third round out of Florida State in 2018. During that time, Nnadi won three Super Bowl titles. But despite all his success in Kansas City, Nnadi signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Jets in March. Nnadi was supposed to provide a veteran presence on the defensive line opposite Quinnen Williams , but that never happened. Nnadi had a quiet summer and was expected to be released before final cuts on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Last Wednesday, the Jets traded for defensive tackle help after acquiring Harrison Phillips from the Vikings and Jowon Briggs from the Browns. During the preseason loss to the Eagles on Fri...
