An Ecuadorian man wanted for a 2011 murder in the South American nation has been arrested in Connecticut , authorities said Wednesday. Richard Cabrera , aka Ricardo Dionicio Cabrera-Erreyes, 50, was nabbed Tuesday in Oxford, the U.S. Marshals said in a press release. He was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice. Cabrera is accused of stabbing a woman to death on Nov. 24, 2011, in Lujo, Ecuador, about 3,000 miles south of the Connecticut town where he was captured. He faces a charge of femicide in his home country. Recent cooperation between Ecuadorian authorities and the U.S. Marshals led to his arrest, according to the Marshals. He’d been living in the U.S. under an assumed identity, authorities said. In the U.S., Cabrera was charged with being in the country illegally and transferred into Immigrations and Customs Enforcement custody. He is expected to be deported back to Ecuador . Federal prosecutors said Monday that the man charged with shooting two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses, killing one couple, went to two other legislators’ homes that night, bent on more bloodshed.
