A New Jersey 19-year-old has been charged in connection with a violent home invasion, during which he allegedly attacked a man with a knife and stole his car, officials said.
The Essex County teen, who was not identified, is facing counts of robbery, armed burglary, theft of movable property and unlawful possession of a weapon, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement to NJ.com on Friday.
He’s being charged as a juvenile given he was 17 years old at the time of the incident.
The teen was already being held on unrelated charges at the Bergen County Jail when authorities sought his arrest.
The latest charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 30, 2023 in Tenafly. A local homeowner told authorities that a man in mask burst into his home on Mahan Street, then charged at him with a knife before making off with his vehicle.
The victim suffered a large contusion on his head and a major wound to his nose.
The suspect’s arrest comes after a years-long probe, which included analysis of trace evidence, prosecutors said. Authorities provided few other details.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
