Fire tears through three Brooklyn apartment buildings, displaces 10 families

A blistering blaze tore through a Brooklyn apartment building, displacing 10 families as the flames spread through two adjacent buildings, FDNY officials said Sunday.

The four-alarm fire started at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in an apartment building on Graham Ave. near Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg, engulfing the top floor and a cockloft when firefighters arrived.

The flames soon spread to two adjoining row frame buildings, FDNY officials said.

“They’re made entirely of wood, and the fire traveled heavily in that common cockloft,” FDNY Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods said in a social media post Sunday. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Three smoke eaters suffered minor injuries, and one person was treated at the scene but declined to be hospitalized.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Marathon hearings conclude in state case against Luigi Mangione for UnitedHealthcare CEO killing

Marathon proceedings in Luigi Mangione’s state homicide case came to a close Thursday, as Manhattan prosecutors and lawyers for the suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson rested without calling any more witnesses. The parties won’t learn for some time which positions prevailed, with state Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro asking each side to submit final written arguments and indicating he would rule on Mangione’s motions to suppress evidence central to the prosecution’s case by May 18. Long Island man stabbed roommate to death in fight: cops

A young Long Island man has been arrested and accused of stabbing his roommate to death Sunday following a dispute at their home in Nassau County, police said. Desean Hamilton , a 23-year-old Elmont resident, was charged with second-degree murder in the case, Nassau County police said Monday in an alert. The victim was publicly identified only as a 33-year-old man. Investigators believe Hamilton and the victim had an argument over living conditions at their shared home , about 5 miles northeast of JFK Airport, News 12 Long Island reported. The debate ended with Hamilton stabbing the older man to death, cops said. Officers responded to the home around 1 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a stabbing , according to the Nassau County Police Department.
